Emergency Dental Care & Extractions

When Something's Wrong, We're Here Fast

A chipped tooth, a bad toothache, a fall on the playground. Dental emergencies happen, usually at the worst possible time, and they’re scary for kids and parents alike. When they do, we’re ready to help your child feel better quickly and gently.

What counts as a dental emergency?

If you’re not sure whether it’s an emergency, call us anyway. We’d always rather hear from you. Common reasons families reach out include a knocked-out or broken tooth, a toothache that won’t quit, swelling or signs of infection, an injury to the mouth or jaw, or something stuck that won’t come loose. If your child has sustained an orofacial injury that includes a loss of consciousness or requires additional medical attention, please call 911 or visit your local emergency room for evaluation.

What to do right now

First, take a breath. Then call us at (908) 312-7300 and we’ll walk you through exactly what to do next. If a permanent tooth has been knocked out, keep it moist (in milk or against the cheek) and get to us as soon as you can. The faster we see your child, the more options we have.

About extractions

Sometimes a tooth needs to come out, whether from severe decay, injury, or to make room for healthy development. We know “extraction” sounds intimidating, so here’s the truth: we make it as gentle and calm as possible. With our comfort-first approach and sedation options when needed, most kids handle it far better than parents expect. We’ll explain everything in advance and keep your child relaxed the whole way through
