Baby Root Canals (Pulpotomy)

Saving the Tooth, Easing the Worry

We know “root canal” sounds scary, especially for a child. So let’s clear that up right away: a baby root canal is a gentle, routine procedure that relieves your child’s pain and saves their tooth. In many cases, it’s the kindest thing we can do for a hurting little one.

What it is

A baby root canal, or pulpotomy, treats a tooth where decay has reached the inner pulp. We gently remove the damaged tissue, clean the area, and seal it, usually finishing with a crown to protect the tooth. It stops the pain and lets your child keep their natural tooth until it’s ready to come out on its own.

Why it matters

Baby teeth do important work. They help your child eat, speak, and smile, and they hold space for the permanent teeth developing underneath. Losing one too early can cause problems down the line, so saving it is often the better path.

What to expect

Here’s the part that reassures most parents: with our gentle technique and comfort options, including sedation when it helps, most kids handle this far more easily than expected. We’ll keep your child calm and comfortable the entire time, and explain every step so you know exactly what’s happening.
